Anti-ragging policy

What ragging means

Any act — a word, a gesture, a message, a so-called tradition — that teases, humiliates, frightens, isolates or harms another student, or forces them to do something they would not choose to do. It is ragging in a hostel room, a classroom, the mess, the bus or online, and whether or not it is meant as a joke. Ragging is an offence under the UGC Regulations on Curbing the Menace of Ragging, 2009 and Section 116 of the Karnataka Education Act, 1983.

Our rule

Zero tolerance. A student found ragging another is suspended the same day while the matter is looked into, and may be expelled. Where the law requires it, a police complaint is filed. There is no seniority on our campus, and the only welcome for new students is the one the wardens organise.

The undertaking

At joining, every student and every parent sign an undertaking that they have read this policy and accept its consequences.

How to report

• Tell any warden, teacher, the counsellor or the Campus Director, in person, at any hour.
• Use the sealed complaint box outside the warden’s desk, with or without your name.
• Parents may call the warden’s desk at any time, or write to admissions@drvarunexamexcellence.com.
• The national anti-ragging helpline, 1800-180-5522, is displayed on campus.

A student who reports ragging is protected and their name is kept confidential. Retaliation against a student who reports is treated as ragging.

How we respond

The Campus Director hears from everyone involved within twenty-four hours. Parents of both students are called the same day. The counsellor supports the student who was harmed for as long as they need. The decision and the reasons are given to both families in writing.

Prevention

Wardens live in the hostel blocks. Headcounts and night rounds are part of every day. CCTV covers shared areas, never rooms. New students are paired with a mentor, and the counsellor speaks to every student in the first month.
