His story

A doctor who chose to build a campus.

Varun Murthy trained as a doctor at Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences in Bangalore and practised medicine before he turned to education. Between 2014 and 2019 he led academics at Byju’s across more than sixty institutions, and in 2020 he taught NEET as a Senior Professor at Unacademy. In both places he saw the same thing: brilliant teachers, enormous reach, and students who still fell through the cracks because nobody was responsible for the whole child.

Medicine had taught him the answer. Good hospitals do not depend on heroic doctors; they depend on systems — checklists, handovers, second opinions, records that anyone can read. He decided to build a NEET campus the same way.

In 2021 he founded the Rebuild India Foundation, which runs Noble International School in Bagalur, where 160 children study entirely free of cost. In 2025 he opened Dr Varun’s NEET Residential Campus at Kodathi. Today, through Rebuild India Medical Academy, he is building the ten-acre Magadi Road campus where students will be able to join in Class 9 and stay through 2nd PUC.

He is a Rotarian, the author of Arjuna to You: The Bhagavad Gita for the Young Indian, and a frequent speaker, in Kannada and English, on how India educates its children.

In his words

Why a doctor runs this campus.

A hospital is not safe because its doctors are brave. It is safe because everything that matters is written down, checked, and owned by someone qualified. I could not understand why a child’s most important two years should be run any other way. So we run our campus like a good hospital — and we never promise a rank, because no honest doctor promises an outcome. We promise the care.

Meghalaya STAR 30 · 2024 to 2026

Dr Varun led the Government of Meghalaya’s residential NEET and JEE initiative for students from all twelve districts of the state. The programme has now been completed, and it shaped much of how our own campus runs today.

Student Empowerment Programme, with Rotary Bangalore South

His sixteen-point Success Blueprint — the habits, routines and mindset behind exam success — delivered to school students across Bengaluru.

Noble International School, Bagalur

A full school run by the Rebuild India Foundation, where 160 children from the villages around Bagalur study without paying a rupee. It is the reason this campus exists.
