Health, medical care and wellbeing

Before joining

Every family completes a health form: allergies, ongoing conditions, regular medicines, past surgeries and anything a warden should know. This information is confidential and shared only with the people who look after your child.

The sick-bay

The campus sick-bay treats everyday illness — fever, colds, stomach upsets, minor injuries — under a written medical protocol: which medicines are kept, who may give them, in what dose, and exactly when a student goes to hospital. Every dose is recorded. A student with a fever rests and is not sent to class.

Regular medicines

Medicines your child takes regularly are handed to the warden at joining with the doctor’s prescription, kept locked, and given by the warden at the prescribed times. Students do not keep medicines in their rooms.

Hospital care

Anything beyond the sick-bay’s protocol goes to our partner hospital, accompanied by a member of staff, and you receive a call immediately. In an emergency we act first and call you from the hospital. Hospital treatment costs are yours; the campus advances them and settles with you afterwards, with the bills.

Mind as well as body

Our counsellor is on campus and speaks to every student in the first month. Teachers and wardens are trained to notice a difficult patch early and bring it to the counsellor. Conversations with the counsellor are confidential; parents are involved when a student is at risk, always with the student’s knowledge. Tele-MANAS, the national mental-health helpline on 14416, is displayed where every student can see it. No student is mocked, ranked or punished for struggling.

Sleep, food and exercise

Sleep is protected by the timetable. Meals are freshly cooked, vegetarian, planned for a long study day and inspected every morning before they are served, with a daily kitchen record. Yoga every morning and sport every evening are on the timetable and are never withheld as punishment.

Infectious illness

A student with an infectious illness rests in the sick-bay, away from the dormitory, until a doctor says they may return. Parents are told the same day and may take the student home to recover.

Insurance

The fee sheet states whether a group accident policy covers students and what it covers. We recommend that every family also holds its own health insurance.
