Campus rules and code of conduct

The day

The timetable is the rule. Morning yoga, classes, meals, self-study, sport, revision and lights out happen at the times on the calendar, which every family receives before the year begins. Sleep is protected: no student is kept awake for study, and no student is woken for it.

The hostel

• Boys and girls live in separate blocks, each with its own resident warden. No student enters the other block.
• Headcounts are taken at every move of the day and at night rounds. A student going anywhere other than where the timetable says tells their warden first.
• Rooms are kept tidy and are inspected by the warden. Rooms are never locked from the inside.
• Food from outside, deliveries and cooking in rooms are not allowed.

Gadget-free

Students do not keep mobile phones, smart watches, tablets or laptops on campus. A phone brought to campus is handed to the warden at joining and returned at the holiday. Students call home on the campus phone at their scheduled time each week, and parents can reach the warden’s desk at any hour. Study tablets, where issued, belong to the campus and are used under supervision.

Not allowed, without exception

Tobacco, alcohol, drugs and any intoxicant; weapons and fireworks; leaving the campus without written permission; entering another student’s room without them; damaging campus property; and any behaviour covered by our anti-ragging or child protection policies. Money is kept with the warden, and students do not lend or borrow it.

Respect

Every person on the campus — teachers, wardens, cooks, guards and cleaners — is addressed with respect, and treats every student with respect in return. Language or behaviour that demeans anyone for their caste, religion, language, region, gender or appearance is a serious breach.

When a rule is broken

1. A conversation. The warden or teacher talks to the student and notes it in the student’s care record.
2. A call home. A second breach, or a serious one, means a call to the parents the same day and a written note.
3. A meeting. The parents, the student, the warden and the Campus Director agree a plan, in writing.
4. Suspension or expulsion. For a grave breach, or where a plan has failed, the Director may suspend the student while the matter is looked into, and may ask the student to leave. The family receives the reasons in writing, may reply, and the refund policy applies.

Discipline is never physical, never humiliating, and never carried out in front of other students. Marks are never a punishment or a reward. Food and sleep are never withheld.

Belongings and rooms

Valuables stay at home. A student is responsible for damage they cause; it is recorded, shown to the parent, and recovered from the caution deposit.
